The Blue Ribbon Movement

Together, we are stronger!

“Mentoring has proven to be an exceptional experience for both of us. Our relationship has provided my mentee a friend to confide in, a shoulder to rest on, a light to be inspired from... As for me, it rebuilt belief in my own capabilities, taught me the art of giving without expecting and further pushed my zest to do more... live more!”

Trinjhna Kattar, Mentor to Urusha Khan

The purpose of the program:

To develop successful mentoring relationships for all children who are in need of them, contributing to their overall balanced development, a stronger youth force and in turn a better world to live in.

The approach:

In essence, the program ‘matches’ a youngster (from 13 – 17 years of age) (referred to as mentee) with a mentor (from 22 – 30 years of age). The match is created from the same gender (boy-men and girl-women), similarity of interest and location. The idea is to spend 4 hours a month (1 hour per week) together, without any agenda except interaction which leads to the forming of a healthy relationship.

There is a rigorous selection process for the mentors. There is professional support in terms of counselors available for reference at any point of time.

This is a chance to gift a child a new friend – a mentor. The mentor eventually becomes a non-judgemental friend and a role model for the child. The mentor would help the mentee realise their potential and guide them through any crisis situation.

On the mentor’s side this is a great way to contribute socially and share experiences. The mentees would be able to relate to the mentors as they would be of a nearer age group than that of their own parents and for the mentors it would be an opportunity to reconnect with their childhood, and help the mentees with issues and problems that they have already surpassed.
